Our History

Contemplative Outreach of Kentucky is a local chapter of Contemplative Outreach, Ltd. Founded in 1984 through the leadership of Fr. Thomas Keating, Contemplative Outreach is a worldwide spiritual network of individuals and small faith communities committed to living the contemplative dimension of the Gospel through the practice of daily Centering Prayer.

In 1993, Ruth Dundon, a Centering Prayer group facilitator, relocated to Kentucky and was searching for a small faith community. Through Gail Fitzpatrick-Hopler, Ruth connected with others who earlier had attended a Centering Prayer workshop lead by Gail and Fr. Carl Arico in Louisville. A new Centering Prayer group was formed and later, the same year, CO-KY.

CO-KY offers support to members through local centering prayer groups, Lectio Divina, eNewletters, Days of Prayer and Fall Enrichment Programs. Resources, books and tapes related to Centering Prayer are available at Cor Unum Spiritual Center in Louisville. CO-KY also offers periodic Introductory workshops, Centering Prayer retreats and formation programs.
